Your website gets visits, maybe you are paying for ads, but leads are not coming in. It is one of the most common problems I see in startups and mid-sized companies, and it is rarely solved by changing colors or buying more traffic.
A UX audit finds where in the journey people drop off and why. I have spent more than eight years working in product design, growth and conversion optimization at companies like Uber, Cornershop and Toteat, and this is how I run one.
What a UX audit is
It is a structured review of your site from the point of view of the user and the data. The result is a prioritized list of issues, each with a concrete recommendation and an estimate of its impact.
What I review
- Message clarity. Whether, in the first few seconds, people understand what you offer, who it is for and why they should choose you.
- The full funnel. Every step from landing on the site to buying or contacting you, and where people drop off.
- Usability. Long forms, buttons that are hard to see, confusing navigation, mobile errors.
- Trust. Social proof, pricing, contact details and visible policies.
- Speed and performance. Core Web Vitals, image weight and scripts that add nothing.
- Technical and content SEO. Indexing, titles, URL structure, canonicals and whether your pages answer what people search for.
- Measurement. Whether conversion events are set up and the data can be trusted.
How it works
I start with the data: Google Analytics, Search Console and, when available, session recordings or heatmaps. That is where the pages with lots of visits and few conversions show up, and they are usually the biggest opportunity.
Then I review the site against usability heuristics and walk through the main flows on mobile and desktop, the way a new customer would. When possible, I add quick tests with real users: five people trying to complete a task already reveal most of the problems.
At the end you get a document with every finding ranked by impact and effort, so you know what to change first and what can wait.
When you need one
- Your site has traffic but few conversions.
- You are investing in ads and your cost per lead keeps rising.
- You are about to redesign and want to decide with data.
- You launched months ago and never checked how customers actually use the site.
